Classes vary based on the individual school. Please select your closest school to see the class days and times
This is our most popular course. The student attends a 4 hour workshop class each week until their guitar is finished. Students attend weekly classes in a specialized guitar building workshop and are taught and supervised by a Certified Guitar Making Instructor. Class duration is 4 hours and the maximum class size is 6 students. The time taken to complete a guitar depends on a number of factors including the existing woodworking skills of the student, their preferred pace of working and the complexity of the guitar that they choose to build. Twenty five to thirty five weekly sessions is typical.
Weekly Course Tuition Fee
Students pay a weekly tuition fee that covers the use of the workshop (each student has his/her own bench to work at), the use of all the specialized guitar making tools, and instruction and supervision from a Certified Guitar Making Instructor.
This is a pay-as-you-go course so you don't need the full course fees up front but instead you get to spread the cost of your course over approximately 6 months.
Also this course gives you the opportunity to work totally at your own pace. Of course you are supervised all the way by one of our expert instructors so you can be confident that you will produce an excellent guitar.
Unfortunately, due to increasing business costs such as electricity price increases the weekly class fees will be going up from 1 January 2018. Please check your individual school to see the details.

We explore a comprehensive range of traditional and contemporary bracing systems to ‘tailor’ the sound that most suits your playing.
These bracing systems include Fan Classical, Fan Flamenco, Ladder, Radial, Falcate, X brace, lattice and Double Top. We look at how any one of these bracing systems gets transposed onto a range of body shapes.
We look at all the neck to body joins and select from Spanish Heel, Dovetail, Bolt on and Bolt on Bolt off.
When your instrument is almost finished we explore the resonant frequency of your top, air and back and try and shift the frequency to our target using a frequency analyser and Chladni pattern analysis.
We take an excursion to a saw mill and look at how timber is milled and what to look for.
Finally when your instrument is ready for finishing we can choose between French polish or Nitro Cellulose finish depending on time.
The evening of the last day of the course we have wine food and music on our instruments to celebrate.
Numbers are limited to 4 students.
What to expect from the Intensive Course
The ‘intensive’ ukulele course is intended for people with basic or no woodworking skills. Some of the processes have been streamlined to ensure the instrument is finished within the course time frame. You will still be building the ukulele from raw materials and will gain valuable experience with many hand tools. You will end up with a very high quality instrument in both appearance and tone.
